The City requires contractors, homeowners and individuals to submit application forms for many activities, including residential construction, permits, licensing and more.

General Forms

​Cancellation and/or Refund Request Form
An application to request a refund prior to a decision being made or a permit or licence being issued for Development Permits, Building Permits, Heating and Ventilation Permits, Plumbing and Gas Permit, Electrical Permits, Licence Fees, Compliance Fees and Encroachment Fees.

FOIP Application Form
To apply for access to information in the custody or under the control of the City of Edmonton.

Search of Records Request Form
To apply for either plan or file search on a property or building. This request must be made by the owner or by an acting agent on behalf of the owner.

Contractor Change Request Form
A contractor listed on a permit application can be changed before they have taken control of the trades permit or an inspection is completed. Visit the project dashboard in selfserve.edmonton.ca.
Use this PDF form only if absolutely necessary and after the online change option has been exhausted.

Change Safety Codes Permit Applicant or Permit Holder
For requesting to change a safety codes permit applicant or permit holder.

Use this form for re-inspection of previously-identified infractions only when a safety codes officer (SCO) has determined the infractions to be eligible for re-inspection through VOC, which will typically be indicated at the time of unsuccessful inspection. Construction Forms

The owner, developer or contractor responsible for a construction or demolition site is required to develop a Fire Safety Plan acceptable to a Fire Safety Codes Officer, as mandated in the National Fire Code — Alberta Edition.

You are required to submit your completed fire safety plan to the City's Development Services Branch at the time of the building permit application.

An application for approval regarding development or construction projects on a residential property/building that include:

Detached Garage/Shed Design Form
An application for the construction of a detached garage or shed.

Residential Demolition Form
An application form used to remove standing structures such as a house or garage.
Properties listed on the Inventory of Historic Resources in Edmonton will be required to submit additional information as per Section 7.140.6 of the Zoning Bylaw.

Asbestos Management Form
If demolishing any structure(s) exceeding 10 sq m, complete and submit this form.

Secondary Suite
An application to apply for a new secondary suite within an existing structure, including suites that are existing without permits.

New House Permit Application Form
Application form for Single Detached House, Semi-detached House, Duplex, Row House (3 or 4 units), or Backyard Housing. Refer to the New House Permit Application Guide for required items and supporting documentation for this application. See the Application Requirements.

Abandoned Wells Confirmation Form
Any new subdivision or select Development Permit application require this form as part of the main application. For select Development Permit, any new building that will be larger than 47 square metres (506 square feet), or an addition to or an alteration of an existing building that will result in the building being larger than 47 square metres (506 square feet) must include this form with the application package.

Footing and Foundation ONLY Building Permit Form
For use in conjunction with an application for a New House Permit. This is an optional request for an expedited building permit for the construction of the foundation and main floor deck of the project.

The permit holder assumes all risks, as the final building permit for the project has not yet been issued.

Asbestos Management Form
If demolishing any structure(s) exceeding 10 square metres, complete and submit this form.

Project Implementation Plan Commitment Letter and Companion Guide
A Project Implementation Plan is intended to help permit applicants, constructors and owners in understanding and fulfilling their roles and responsibilities associated with a construction project.

Infill Lot Grading Plan Requirement Checklist
An Infill Lot Grading Plan is required for all proposed development in a mature neighbourhood to support the Development and Building Permit applications. See the Residential Lot Grading Guidelines for the requirements.

You can apply for permits online at selfserve.edmonton.ca. The project can then be managed by the permit holder through the project dashboard.

Visit the new commercial building page to view the Development Permit Application Requirements for the construction of new non-residential (commercial, industrial, institutional, and similar buildings), large-scale residential (apartments, row houses with five or more units), mixed-use (a mix of residential and non-residential) developments, and temporary structures such as storage sheds and sea cans.

Visit the changes to existing buildings page to view the application requirements for interior and exterior alterations, renovations, additions, tenant space improvements, selective or partial demolitions, changes to business activities (change of use) and/or site changes to non-residential (commercial, industrial, institutional and similar structures) buildings.

Commercial Building Permit Application and Guide to Completing Commercial Building Application This application is required for any new commercial or industrial construction. (If you are doing interior alterations or tenant improvements to existing commercial space, you may use the following Short-Form.

Commercial Building Permit Application for Interior Alterations (Short-Form)
This application is for interior alterations/tenant improvements to existing floor and mezzanine areas, and miscellaneous work in and around commercial buildings.

Selective Interior Demolition Permission Application
This application is to request permission to proceed with selective interior demolition work on commercial interior alterations while the building permit is being processed for Building and Trades permit issuance.

Festivals and Special Events Permits Application Form and Guide
Application for Building Permit and related trades for any temporary Special Event or Festival.

GeoExchange System Application Form
A GeoExchange System, commonly known as a Geothermal System, is a network of piping in the ground with a closed loop fluid circulation that allows for heat transfer between a building HVAC system and the ground. GeoExchange systems can improve the energy efficiency of building heating and cooling systems.

The GeoExchange System Installation Application form provides the City of Edmonton with sufficient information about the proposed GeoExchange system to ensure building code and industry best practice compliance of any buildings it may connect to.

Heating and Ventilation Contractor Journeyperson Registration
This form must be filled out for the first time registration of certified journeypersons.

Plumbing and Gas Application Form - Contractors
To apply for approval to install or alter plumbing and gas equipment.

Plumbing and Gas Application Form - Homeowner
Single family homeowners who apply for this permit must own and reside in the residence and be doing the work themselves. Before submitting an application for a Homeowner trade permit, review the updated information for Plumbing permits and for Gas permits.

An application for a sewage disposal system for new homes and for system replacements for older homes.
